New High School Assessment and Accountability Task Force

The 2009 Education Bill authorized the creation of a task force to develop recommendations for the next generation of high school assessments. The task force is comprised of leaders from K-12 organizations, higher education and business. The group is co-chaired by Dirk Mattson, Director of Research and Assessment, and Kent Pekel, Executive Director of the University of Minnesota’s College Readiness Consortium. To follow the work of this group, visit their page on the Minnesota P-16 Education Partnership Website. The link is available under Related Links on this page.

Interested individuals are invited to share their thoughts on some of the key issues the task force will address over the next seven months. All feedback received by July 15 will be read. The task force will release a set of preliminary recommendations in the fall of 2009 and collect another round of feedback. The task force will present its final recommendations to the Commissioner of Education and the legislature before the end of December, 2009. Submit feedback now by visiting the High School Assessment and Accountability Survey.

GRAD Retests

The Reading GRAD retests began in September 2008. The Mathematics GRAD retests will begin in July 2009.  The GRAD retest window starts on the first Tuesday of every month and ends eight days later, although each school district sets its own retest schedule.  In order to have time for remedial instruction, students are eligible to take the retests every other month.
