Truancy

Users can view statutes and relevant court decisions defining truancy and educational neglect. To obtain specific truancy information for a specific school district, contact the local district administration office for a copy of their written discipline policies. It is important to note that in Minnesota, districts refer truancy cases to the county where the student resides and the county attorneys’ office determines if it will proceed with a truancy petition.

Please be aware that the laws set forth below may have been revised since this site was last updated. Please check with an advocate or the department to ensure that the statute or rule is up to date. If there are additional questions, please contact Marikay Canaga Litzau.
