Parent Involvement Plan
The parent involvement plan, a requirement of the No Child Left Behind act, describes ways parents can become more involved in their students' education. It is developed jointly with parents and staff and annually revised as necessary. If a district's current parent involvement plan applies to all parents, schools in that district may need to merely amend that plan to meet the requirements of NCLB.

Parent-Teacher Compact
A parent-teacher compact is one required element of a school’s Title I parent involvement plan. A written agreement created cooperatively by school district staff, it outlines how parents, school staff and students will share responsibility for improved student academic achievement. The parent-teacher compact details how responsiblities will be shared, including:
1) for teachers - activities such as holding parent-teacher conferences and providing parents with timely reports on their child's progress;
2) for parents - activities such as monitoring their child's attendance, volunteering in the classroom and ensuring that homework is completed; and
3) for students - activities such as completing homework every day, asking for help when needed and promising to set aside a specified period of time outside school to read each day or week.
Sample parent-teacher compacts and other resources are provided below.
