Reading First
Reading First is a national reading initiative designed to help every child become a successful reader by the end of third grade. In Minnesota, the goal of the Reading First program is for all students to read at or above grade-level and meet or exceed Minnesota reading standards by the end of third grade.
The main component of Minnesota's Reading First program is the subgrant program for schools/districts, which is a competitive grant process for eligible districts only.
The second component of Minnesota's Reading First program is the statewide Reading Academies program. Any Minnesota school serving K-3 students may apply to participate in the statewide Reading First program.
