Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Appeals

NCLB permits a 30-day period for districts to review the AYP and AMAO status of schools and districts. The appeals window for AYP 2008 is June 30 through July 30. Appeals must be submitted by the superintendent or the superintendent’s designee via Test WES. MDE cannot accept appeals directly from schools or appeals that are not submitted in Test WES. Appeals can be submitted in one of the following seven categories:

1. Data Appeal
2. NCLB Policy
3. Test Administration Policy
4. Test Administration Practices
5. Extenuating Life Circumstances
6. Miscalculation
7. Small School

When submitting an appeal you will need to provide a brief, one-sentence title, a detailed explanation and attach any necessary supporting documentation. School or district staff with access to TestWES may begin an appeal, but they must be formally submitted (authorized) by the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee. For more information please consult the Appeals Tutorial available from the dashboard in Test WES (Submitting an Appeal in Test WES).
