District Level - AYP

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) provides guidance and resources to school districts and multiple-site charter schools that do not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) based on definitions established by MDE and the federal No Child Left Behind Act. A district or multiple-site charter school that does not make AYP is classified as In Need of Improvement which includes several stages. Information on parent notification requirements and on the school improvement planning process appear on this page.

MDE has developed parent notification templates (available in multiple languages) that schools and districts can use and adapt for their use when they do not make AYP. The letters inform parents of what actions are being taken and how the they can get involved. Access the letters by visiting the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) section of the site.
