Teacher Advancement Program
The Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) draws talented people to the teaching profession by making it more attractive and rewarding to be a teacher. TAP helps teachers become the best they can be by giving them opportunities for professional development while incorporating the use of student achievement data to drive their work with instructional strategies.
Minnesota received a Teacher Quality Enhancement grant from the federal government to fund the initial pilot of TAP. The Waseca school district and three schools in Minneapolis are implementing the program. During the 2005-2006 school year, five additional schools in Minneapolis voted to implement TAP. All of these schools received funding from the Q Comp legislation as well as a grant from the TAP Foundation to implement the program. They are: Andersen Open School, Anderson Elementary School, Edison High School, Elizabeth Hall Elementary School, Folwell Middle School, Northeast Middle School, Seward Montessori School and Webster Open School.
