Professional Development

The Minnesota Department of Education, Division of School Improvement was created in January of 2006 and is responsible for providing technical assistance to schools, districts and charter schools.  Programs and services housed within the School Improvement Division include professional development, teacher induction, Q Comp, technical assistance to schools and districts not making adequate yearly progress (AYP), school technology and program evaluation.

The Minnesota Department of Education seeks to support and provide visionary leadership to the Minnesota education community by promoting a wide scope of professional development opportunities for teaching staff. Well-designed and implemented professional development for educators is an essential long-term investment in successfully teaching all students to high standards. Important elements of high quality professional development include: coaching and mentoring, professional learning communities, study groups, action research, curriculum mapping and integration and research-based instructional approaches.
