Technology Planning

Technology planning is critical at both the state and school district level to ensure efficient, effective use of technology resources for learning. The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) is required to develop a Technology Plan for submission to the U.S. Department of Education in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act. MDE develops a state technology plan every three years and publishes a technology planning guide for school districts, charter schools, nonpublic schools and public libraries to assist these entities in the development of their own local technology plans.

Minnesota school districts, charter schools and nonpublic schools are required to submit a technology plan to MDE for approval in order to be eligible for the federal E-rate telecommunications program, the state Telecommunications/Internet Access Equity Aid program, the Enhancing Education Through Technology Grants program and the Minnesota Microsoft Settlement Cy Pres Program.
