AMAO

The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001 requires the Minnesota Department of Education to review annually the performance of districts with English language learners.  The programs for English language learners in these districts must meet three targets.  These targets are known as annual measurable achievement objectives (AMAO):

  • Annual progress in learning English
  • Attainment of English language proficiency on the TEAE and MN SOLOM
  • Reaching academic standards in language arts and mathematics
