School Health Policies

School health services is a comprehensive approach to promoting the health and safety of, as well as preventing illness and injury in, the school population. School health services are managed by the Licensed School Nurse, a specialty practice within the field of professional nursing.

The impact of children's health on learning, long understood as affecting student attendance, is now recognized through brain research, medical research and learning theory to have a significant impact on student's attention, cognition, energy and interactions.  In addition, due to medical advances, more newborn babies and young children with multi-faceted needs are surviving and thriving, bringing complex health and developmental problems to school.  In addition, it is clear, though increased understanding of brain functioning, that mental/emotional health greatly affects students' attention and learning.
