The links on this page include Minnesota and national programs and resources and links to recognition programs in character education. Inclusion of any or all of the identified programs does not represent department endorsement. They are intended to assist districts and schools exploring varied and valued character education programs.

Character Education Organizations

Positive Behavioral Supports and Interventions (PBIS) is a systems change approach that enables districts to effectively and efficiently use evidence-based practices to reduce disciplinary referrals and increase social, emotional, behavioral and academic gains.

Minnesota Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a student organization focusing on character development, leadership skills and interpersonal communication for teens. Minnesota FCCLA is the statewide 2006 lead state agency for National Youth Service Day and will be connecting youth organizations and service projects with Youth Service America.

Character Education & Civic Engagement Technical Assistance Center (CETAC) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and provides information on character education and civic engagement, as well as strategies that support academic goals and other reform efforts.

Character Education Partnership (CEP) provides national advocacy and leadership for the character education movement and a Character Education Resource Guide.

Character Education Recognition Programs

Minnesota Schools of Character Award recognizes schools and/or districts that excel in exemplifying CEP’s Eleven Principles of Effective Character Education and demonstrate outstanding character education initiatives that yield positive results in student behavior, school climate and academic performance.

Youth Frontiers Character Awards recognize students with a $500 scholarship and honors educators for character and dedication to the teaching profession.
