Mission
The mission of FNS is to improve the capacity of participant organizations to provide quality food and nutrition services and to maximize program participation and accessibility.

Strategic Goals
The following five strategic goals were selected because they enable FNS to proactively address current environmental factors yet remain flexible and responsive to future environmental changes.
Improve Student Achievement by Ensuring That All Children Have Access to Nutritious Meals
Our goal is to improve the reading, writing, and mathematic skills of students by increasing the number of children participating in the various state and federal food and nutrition programs.
Improve the Health of Children
Our goal is to improve the health of children by ensuring that all children have access to nutritious meals, quality care, and adequate health insurance.
Improve the Capacity of Food and Nutrition Program Sponsors to Provide Quality Food and Nutrition Services
Our goal is to provide program sponsors with the training and tools necessary to make well-informed decisions, to reduce costs associated with program administration, and to increase program participation.
Improve Communication with Food and Nutrition Service Customers
Our goal is to improve the lines of communication with program sponsors and other stakeholders to ensure that we provide consistent, accurate, complete, and useful information in a timely manner. Our goal is also to ensure that we receive and incorporate stakeholder feedback when possible.
Improve Accountability, Performance, and Results of the Food and Nutrition Service
Our goal is to improve customer service; increase participation across Minnesota in the various state and federal food and nutrition programs; and maintain a high level of program integrity.
