Afterschool Snacks - CACFP Centers

Afterschool snacks served in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) are reimbursed by USDA for "at-risk" children and teenagers 18 years of age and younger who attend an afterschool care center. This program helps ensure that children receive nutritious snacks after the end of their school day to fill the gap between lunch and an evening meal. Sites that are eligible are considered at-risk centers that:

• are located in a school attendance area where at least half of the children who attend the school are eligible for free and reduced price school meals

• offer educational or enrichment activities, after the regular school day ends or on week-ends, during times of the year when school is in session

• meet licensing, health or safety codes that are required by state or local law

• serve nutritionally balanced snacks that meet USDA’s nutritional standards

Public, private nonprofit, or for-profit (Title XX) organizations that operate an eligible afterschool care program may apply to serve Afterschool Snacks under the CACFP.
