Child and Adult Care Food Program for Centers

Child and Adult Care Food Program for Centers

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) promotes improved nutrition for Minnesota children in day care centers.  The CACFP reimburses nonresidential child care centers and outside school hours care centers that serve nutritious meals and snacks. The centers may be eligible for reimbursement for meals and snacks served to: infants and children 12 years of age and younger, children of migrant workers 15 years of age and younger and children of any age with disabilities. Reimbursement is based on the income levels of children in care. Up to two meals and one snack or one meal and two snacks a day can be reimbursed for each child.

Public and private nonprofit schools and child care centers may be eligible to claim CACFP reimbursement for snacks served at no charge to students 18 years of age and younger participating in after school care programs. Eligible programs must be located within the boundaries of elementary, low-income eligible school attendance areas.

Nonresidential adult day service centers may be reimbursed for meals and snacks served to adults at least 60 years of age and functionally impaired adults of any age who reside in the community. Reimbursement is based on the income levels of the enrolled adults.

Emergency shelters may claim reimbursement for up to three meals or two meals and one snack per-child per-day served to infants and children 18 years of age and younger.

Public, private nonprofit and certain private for-profit entities may apply to become sponsoring organizations under the center component of the CACFP.
