Food Distribution Program

Food Distribution Program

The Minnesota Food Distribution Program (FDP) distributes United States of Department of Agriculture (USDA) donated food to Minnesota Schools participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and/or the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The program provides nutritious foods to school age children attending public and private schools, residential childcare institutions, juvenile correctional institutions, boarding schools, and summer camps.

During school year 2006 - 2007, Minnesota distributed over 25 million pounds of donated foods (including bonus products) to eligible recipients participating in the Food Distribution Program. These donated foods were valued at approximately $21 million. The total amount of donated foods received by each state is based on federal funding.
