Emergency Readiness

As a nutrition professional, you must respond immediately when there is an emergency in your operation. Are you prepared? Do you have a written emergency management plan in place so that your staff knows what to do and who to contact? Emergencies come in many forms and degrees of severity, so it’s important to develop a flexible plan that can be easily adapted to any situation. By using the information and resource links within the PowerPoint, you will be guided to develop a written plan that will help you and your staff manage emergencies in your foodservice operation. The PowerPoint created by Minnesota Department of Education, Food & Nutrition Service is based on the National Food Service Management Institute’s (NFSMI) Emergency Management six-step guide to emergency readiness success. However, it further enhances NFSMI’s plan to also include Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HAACP) implementation, managing a food recall, and what to do about a flu pandemic. The PowerPoint also connects you with local and national emergency resources including the Red Cross, the National Department of Education, the Department of Health, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Salvation Army and the Food & Drug Administration (FDA).  To access, click on Emergency Readiness PowerPoint.
