Rural Library Sustainability Program
Public Libraries in Minnesota provide technology connections - with computers, software, databases, training and Internet access for the public. As technology evolves and use expands, small and rural libraries need to determine how to sustain access to the Internet and computing for the public. Challenges facing the library include:
- Upgrading hardware, software and connection speed to meet increasing demands
- Providing ongoing technology literacy training for staff and the public
- Securing ongoing funding to meet community needs
- Advocating for library support within the community
The Rural Library Sustainability (RLS) program provides training and planning workshops, held around the state, in order to support libraries in addressing these challenges. Workshops are sponsored by Minnesota State Library Services in conjunction with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and OCLC WebJunction. Join the discussion! Workshops are open to Directors, Staff, Trustees, Friends, Community Leaders, Advocates.
