Children's Internet Protection Act
Any public library and public school media center/library using Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds to pay for direct costs of accessing the Internet or for purchasing PCs to access the Internet must comply with CIPA's filtering requirement. Public libraries, public library systems and public school media centers/libraries subject to CIPAs filtering requirement must certify when applying for federal fiscal year (FFY) 2004 LSTA funds that they are either (1) currently in compliance, or (2) undertaking efforts to be in compliance by the 2005 LSTA funding year. The Institute of Museum and Library Services, the agency that administers the LSTA program at the federal level, requires state library administrative agency applicants for federal fiscal year 2004 LSTA funds to sign and submit a CIPA certification form.
