Minnesota Teachers Exchange Information
Who Can Apply?
If you are an English speaking, tenured teacher, you are the perfect candidate. You need not have an English major; the only requisite is that you speak English, love kids and are willing to have an experience that will change your life.
Where Will I Be Going?
You will be teaching at the newly completed, state-of-the-art Hangzhou Foreign Language School, located outside the city of Hangzhou, approximately three hours south of Shanghai.
What Will I Teach?
You will be responsible for teaching conversational English and American culture. A textbook is provided for your use in the English class and you may teach whatever aspect of American culture you would like.
Whom Will I Be Teaching?
You will be working with some of the most select students in all of Zhejiang Province. The students must pass a rigorous entrance examination prior to consideration for admittance. All of the students you will be working with will have some knowledge of the English language prior to your arrival. The school includes grades seven through twelve and you will be matched with grade levels that best complement your Minnesota teaching experience.
Where Will I Live?
You have the choice of living on campus in a beautiful room that includes air conditioning, heat and your own western style bathroom. You also have the option of living in a western style flat located in Hangzhou that will put you right in the middle of the culture and action of the city. You do not pay rent at either residence.
How Long of A Commitment Do I Have To Make?
There are three options for your consideration. You may teach the first semester which runs from August to January, the second semester that runs from January to mid-June or you may stay for the entire year.
How Will I Get Paid?
In addition to any pay you receive from your home school district, you will also be paid by Hangzhou Foreign School. You will be paid in cash (Chinese Yuan) at a rate to be determined by the school.
