Minnesota Visiting Teacher Program

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) supports the hiring of teachers from China to teach Chinese as a foreign language in Minnesota classrooms when licensing requirements have been met. Currently, MDE is establishing a relationship with the Hanban (Chinese Language Council International) in Beijing, China to develop procedures to screen, hire and support visiting teachers.

MDE recognizes the need for Minnesota school districts to hire visiting teachers to serve as full-time contracted teachers and the need to hire teachers as teaching assistants to supplement current district initiatives. In both situations, MDE can facilitate the selection of candidates, sponsor visiting teachers (J1 Visas) and provide assistance as necessary to place Chinese teachers in Minnesota classrooms.
