Troops to Teachers

The goal of the Troops to Teachers Program (TTT), now operating in 47 states, is to attract qualified military personnel to enter teaching as a second career in high-need areas. Data from those completing teacher training under the program indicate that it is helping with teacher shortages especially in math, science, special education and other high-need subject areas.

Financial assistance may be provided to eligible military personnel as stipends up to $5,000 to help pay for teacher training costs or as bonuses of $10,000. Participants who accept the stipend or bonus must agree to teach, once licensed, for three years in schools that serve a high number of students from low-income families, in order to meet a key goal of the program.

Some additional goals of the Troops to Teachers Program (TTT) include: to provide additional positive role models for our public school students; to provide information, financial assistance, counseling and employment referral through a network of State TTT Placement Assistance Offices; to match school district openings with competent and experienced TTT applicants
