Richard Wassen is the director of the Educator Licensing Division. The division is responsible for reviewing and issuing licenses for educators to work in a Minnesota school. They also provides assistance to schools in order to comply with Minnesota and federal licensing standards, and work closely with the Board of Teaching and the Board of School Administrators to ensure Minnesota has the highest quality possible educator workforce helping kids succeed in school.
Mr. Wassen worked for many years at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in roles to support the development of educators as a career services director, admissions director, program manager, and coordinator for policy outreach. He completed his graduate education at the University of Minnesota, and began his education career as a librarian and community educator.
U.S. Senate Youth Applications Due Oct. 24
Minnesota 11th- or 12th-grade students who hold an elected office in student government or civic or community organization during the 2014-15 school year are eligible to apply for the U.S. Senate Youth Program. Established in 1962, the program offers a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service. Two selected student leaders from each state, District of Columbia and the Dept. of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington, March 7-14, 2015, experiencing their national government in action.
