Section 504:
This is an overview of important aspects of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, including Section 504 eligibility, evaluation, placement, 504 plans, and procedural safeguards. The presentation will cover important school district obligations and responsibilities, frequently asked questions, important case law, and how the ADA Amendments Act affects Section 504. It will also cover Section 504 resources available from the Office for Civil Rights and the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) as well as MDE’s on-site Civil Rights Compliance Reviews.

Targeted Technical Assistance: Short and Long Term Goals and Objectives: The Division of Compliance and Assistance is offering targeted technical assistance on the topic of writing measurable annual goals and short-term objectives. This training is geared toward special education providers and other special education staff that participate in the development and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for students with disabilities. As one of the most frequently cited areas of noncompliance within special education due process records and special education complaint decisions, short and long term goals and objectives training will also address the impact measurable goals and objectives have on effective implementation of IEP and progress reporting to parents.
