Global Literacy Advisory Board

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), in partnership with St. Cloud State University (SCSU), has received a Longview Foundation Grant to support and increase global learning for all Minnesota students. MDE’s focus on excellence, equity and opportunity, closing the achievement gap, supporting high-quality teaching, using innovative strategies to improve results and preparing students for the 21st century are the foundation of this initiative.

During the past few months, the Global Literacy Advisory Board has been meeting to develop a statewide strategic plan for promoting global learning at the system level. The board is made up of 35 volunteers from around the state.

Statewide Summit on Global Learning
In today’s interconnected, interdependent world, global learning is critical to our state's success. There are more than 210 languages spoken in our schools. Global is now local. We invite you to be a part of the transformative work that is happening.

During this past year, a Global Learning Advisory Board was established through a grant by the Longview Foundation, in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Education and St. Cloud State University. A critical charge of this Board was to develop a Statewide Strategic Plan for Global Learning inclusive of all stakeholders who impact PK-12 education. This includes: PK-12 and postsecondary educators, business partners, and government and community organizations.

This Statewide Summit will host keynote speakers and breakout sessions for all stakeholders. Participants will learn from national and state leaders, and be involved in reflective dialogue as they review the draft strategic plan. Your input is critical to further the work of the advisory board tasked with finalizing the strategic plan.

When: Thursday, May 9, 2013
Where: St. Cloud State University
Cost: $25 includes lunch

Register and learn more about the Summit on the St. Cloud State University website.
