Other Comments:

We plan to begin an all-day kindergarten program with existing facilities. However, we estimate that in the future about 0,000 in renovations will be necessary to offer the program adequately.

We decided to do full day kdg 11 yrs ago. Since that time we added a third classroom. At this time we are very short of classroom space and are in the process of looking at an addition. It would be sad that those of us that have been bearing this additional cost due to the funding and facilities, get overlooked in an future funding.

Q 28 Does your current space for early childhood programs meet the needs for early learning Programming (e.g. bathroom facilities, parking, security, other)?

Yes: 59

No: 41

Q 29 If your current space for early childhood programs does not meet the needs for early learning programming, please explain why.

• Expansion of programming is limited by the fact that we are out of room!
• We have a large growth of early learners and nowhere nearly meet the needs for space.
• We lease some space but need to serve many more children in the future.
• With the addition of Kindergarten classrooms in our Community Education Center, we are forced to limit the number of early learning opportunities that we can offer because of space constraints during the school day. We also do not have any available building space that we could lease within our school district.
• We currently offer all day – every day kindergarten. However, we are growing by an average of 50 additional students each year (enrollment this year - 945). We will move our early childhood programs to another site this coming school year to make space for an additional kindergarten classroom section. We tried to pass a bond referendum three times during 2009 and 2010 school years, but all three failed. Our impoverished community simply could not afford the tax increase with the depressed economy. We have funded four additional classrooms, expanded our cafeteria through lease levy. We have used our allotted lease levy options. We used ADA lease levy to remodel our Ag. shop into a physical education space. We are hoping to pass a bond referendum next year to address our growth needs.
• We lease a building in one of our communities to house our prek programs. It is an older building and could use updating and renovations to better meet the needs of the population we serve there.
• Our space is over-crowded and outside of the two communities it serves. Participation is limited due to transportation issues for parents. We do not have enough space to offer a comprehensive child care program which would greatly benefit our preschool programs.
• Our current facilities are too small and where not designed to serve this student population
• We need three rooms with bathrooms in them for preschool students. At this point we are making it work without them, but it is not ideal.
• We'd like to add a third classroom space, additional parking, and increase our two ECFE teachers from 0.8 FTE to 1.0 FTE.
• The room is too small for parenting classes and student at the same time. There are no vacant rooms in the building. Parking is an issue, along with security entering the building.
• We have only 1 classroom available. We intend to expand pre-k opportunities and are contemplating construction to provide the necessary classroom space.
• We have had early childhood programming largely at one site or center. Now it will expand to schools and thus renovation is needed.
• School was built prior to having preschool programs for three-year- olds. The three-year-old space in inadequate. The Board is looking at adding onto the school.
• We have an expanding preschool population and we do not have the sufficient space to provide for our populations.
• We have expanded many programs. The amount of age 3-4 year olds who have been identified with SPED needs had increased dramatically and taken away classroom spaces to meet the needs.
• ECFE is housed in an old building which we are considering vacating and building new.
• Need an additional room.
• Classrooms were taken from regular 1-6 and 1-6 were moved into what was Junior High space which was moved into Senior High space. We are short of space.
• Not enough classroom space for enrollment growth. We are adding space in the new Kindergarten additions
• The facilities were not designed for preK students, especially en mass.
• Lack of space.
• Our space is limited and in a building built in 1926. This is the former Intermediate School and the spaces are not necessarily conducive to early childhood programming. Additionally, our parking and security is severely limited.
• By adding all-day Kindergarten and adding school readiness, Head Start, and ECFE courses the building is very short in space. Additional space is needed to accommodate other needs.
• We've carved out room for our current programs, but it is tight and not ideal. We would like to grow the program, but there is not currently any room for growth.
• Space
• Not enough space for the identified at-risk early learning population. Spaces get relocated as student population changes within buildings. Spaces available do not always meet the needs of full early learning curriculum implementation (size, bathroom, age appropriate, geographic location).
• The building was an elementary school and areas need to be updated for early childhood programming.
• Security & bathroom
• Our space does meet the needs as we planned for this in our reorganization of the district. We are at capacity in some sites and cannot expand opportunities.
• They occupy a classroom that we could use for our K-6 needs. Parking and drop off for this program is of concern.
• We may need to add another section but don't have another room in that building.
• There is not room in our existing buildings for all programs.
• No green space or playground facilities.
• Early Childhood/preschool is projected to grow at a rate of 15% over the next 10 years resulting in additional facility needs.
• I think if there was more space the programs could be expanded.
• Classroom space is limited.
• Parking is very challenging. Our parents have to cross Hwy 43 which is a very busy highway. Also, the preschool rooms currently are located in the lower level of our school. The rooms are smaller with no bathrooms within the room. We do the best we can with the space we have however we do have challenges in all areas with our growing preschool enrollment.
• We need to increase the center size and provide better security in that area. Parking needs to be addressed.
• The need in our community is growing and we are limited on space options. We need to look at expanding space for the growing demand/need.
• Bathrooms not adjoined in all buildings, often moved when enrollments increase at building, have 2 early education buildings but not enough space, transportation costs prohibit school readiness and Title I preschool.
• We need updates to building and no way to fund it.
