For Immediate Release: August 6, 2012
ROSEVILLE - With the new school year just a month away, Minnesota Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius is embarking on a tour across Minnesota to highlight exciting education efforts taking place throughout the state.
This morning, Commissioner Cassellius will be in Eagan where for the first time, District 196 is preparing teachers to assess all district elementary students before they begin school this fall. This focus will ensure educators are able to better address the needs of each student.
Commissioner Cassellius will meet with Superintendent Jane Berenz before joining local teachers for the morning training session.
In addition to District 196, Commissioner Cassellius will be visiting other communities in August, including Saint Cloud and Moorhead.

Summer STEM Activities
School may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean learning has to! In fact, it is vital that it doesn’t. Over the summer, students can lose the equivalent of two months of their grade-level math and reading skills. To combat summer learning loss and keep those STEM skills fresh over the summer, Project Lead The Way (PLTW) put together a list of 20 Super Cool, simple (and FUN!) STEM activities you can do with your children over summer break.
