Commissioner Cassellius Kicks-off Your Choice, Your Future Series

ROSEVILLE – On Wednesday, Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius will kick-off a series of forums focused on getting students college-ready in Hopkins. Your Choice, Your Future is an initiative geared toward Minnesota eighth-grade students, asking them to start thinking about higher education and a career as they prepare to register for high school classes this fall.

Students will be encouraged to take more than the core required courses in their preparation for higher education, choosing from an array of challenging options including advanced placement and honors classes.

By 2018, an estimated 70 percent of all jobs in the state will require some form of higher education, making it even more critical for our students have the tools necessary to succeed in college and career.

The forum will also feature a keynote speaker and a Jeopardy-style game where students will learn facts about the education required for various careers and important steps when planning for higher education. The forum also coincides with administration of the EXPLORE Test, which tells students information they need to know when planning high school courses.

On Friday, Commissioner Cassellius will host another Your Choice, Your Future forum in Faribault. Assistant Commissioner Rose Chu will host a forum on January 23 in Duluth and Assistant Commissioner Elia Bruggeman will also host a forum on January 24 in St. Michael-Albertville. Your Choice, Your Future is presented in cooperation with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education.
