• Teacher Appreciation Week – May 7-11, 2012

The Minnesota Department of Education is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week! Each day there are special features posted on our website to recognize the excellent teachers we have in Minnesota. Visit the Minnesota Department of Education website. You are invited to view a special video message from Commissioner Cassellius as she reflects about a teacher that inspired her early in life with the gift and love of learning. Watch the video.

• Commissioner’s Monthly Dialogue with Superintendents – Wednesday, May 16

The next audio conference call with Commissioner Cassellius is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, 9:30-10:30.
At this conference call, Karen Cadigan, Office of Early Learning director, will provide an update regarding Race to the Top – Early Learning Challenge activities.

As a reminder, the last conference call scheduled for this school year is Wednesday, June 20, 9:30-10:30. Commissioner Cassellius encourages you to make time on your schedule to participate in these informative conference calls. She is happy to answer questions and hear your comments and concerns. Call-in instructions will be sent to you next week prior to Wednesday’s conference call.

• Basic Skills Exam Legislation for Minnesota Teacher Licensure

Governor Mark Dayton recently signed legislation revising a law passed in February related to the Basic Skills teacher exam requirement for Minnesota teacher licensure. Please see the attached Basic Skills Exam Legislation document. Additional information is available on the Licensing Web page.
