Learning from Finland – A Discussion with Tony Wagner – October 16, 2012
Tony Wagner, keynote speaker at the annual leadership conference in August, will be back on October 16 to continue the discussion about how to advance meaningful education reforms in our state. Registration has closed for attending the in-person presentation; however, we are working on making remote access available. When arrangements are finalized, sign-in instructions will be sent to those superintendents and charter school directors who have indicated their desire to participate.
Commissioner’s Monthly Dialogue with Superintendents – October Conference Call has been CANCELLED
The October Conference Call has been cancelled. The next conference call is scheduled for Monday, November 19, 9:30-10:30 a.m. School district superintendents are invited to participate in this monthly dialogue via audio conference call held the 3rd Wednesday of the month (with the exception of Monday, November 19). Call-in instructions will be e-mailed to you two days prior to the conference call.
Teacher Evaluation Process Survey – Due Wednesday, October 17
In reference to the September 20 notice in the weekly superintendent communication, the district teacher evaluation survey is now available. This survey has been utilized in other states to study teacher evaluation processes and is designed to provide information to the MDE and the MDE’s Teacher Evaluation Work Group as they develop the state default model for teacher evaluation. The survey includes questions regarding information about what districts currently have in place, what districts need to implement evaluation requirements found in statute, and what districts intend to do relative to implementing the state’s default model or designing/refining local models.
Take the survey. The survey is intended to be completed JOINTLY by the superintendent or his or her designee and the president of the local teacher bargaining unit or his or her designee. MDE is requesting that the surveys be completed and returned electronically no later than October 17th.
MDE Celebration School Award
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and the Minnesota Academic Excellence Foundation (MAEF) invite applications for the MDE Celebration School Award. The purpose of the award is to identify Minnesota Title I schools that have demonstrated excellence on Minnesota's new Multiple Measurement Rating (MMR) and have exhibited success with initiatives that have led to positive student outcomes. Schools that have earned the Celebration Eligible status are highly encouraged to apply for this award. Application Period Closed.
Using Data Webinar Series
The Minnesota Department of Education is hosting a series of webinars that focus on effectively using data for planning, school improvement, evaluation, and other reporting needs required by state statute. All districts and schools are encouraged to join the webinars. Please share this information with district/school leadership, data coaches, district/school assessment coordinators, and other interested staff. Minnesota Common Course Catalogue (MCCC) Changes for Reporting Year 2011-2012 – WebEx Information Sessions
WebEx sessions providing information concerning the changes to the MCCC data collections for 2011-2012 for grades 9-12 have been scheduled October 23 through November 2.
