Thanks to all of you who participated in yesterday’s conference call. We covered a lot of territory over the hour and hope that the time was helpful to you. We will continue to provide updates and let you know of pertinent information as it develops. Note that the next conference call will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 9:30-10:30.
Tony Wagner Presents at TIES 2012 Annual Education Technology Conference – December 8-11, 2012
Tony Wagner will present from 9:00 to 10:15 on Tuesday, December 11, regarding the topic “Creating Innovators: The Making of Young People who will Change the World.” Also of particular interest, the keynote presenter during the Tuesday lunch will be Sal Kahn, founder of the Kahn Academy. He will speak via live videoconference. The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Minneapolis. For more information, visit the TIES website.
Supply/Demand Survey – Due November 30, 2012
Last week the new Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) Educator Supply/Demand Survey went out to all districts and charter schools. To make sure it reached the right school administrator, it was sent to your STAR coordinator with the request to forward the e-mail with the survey link to either the superintendent, charter school director, or the human resources director. Due to the logistics involved in making sure we collect current information and our mandated deadlines, we have only a short “collection” window. I’m hoping you can complete the survey by November 30th.
The survey is much shorter than in the past, and we believe more relevant to understanding district/charter school staffing needs. It was developed with feedback from school administrators and other stakeholders. The information that’s collected through the survey will be used in conjunction with multiple sets of data (for example, student demographic data); your best perceptions in response to the survey questions will be key to understanding your recent experience and projections for the future. If you have questions, please contact Richard Wassen, Director, Educator Licensing, at 651-582-8807. Thank you!
Commissioner Cassellius and the entire MDE staff wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
