Commissioner’s Dialogue with Superintendents – Friday, May 31

The May audio conference call with Commissioner Cassellius has been rescheduled for Friday, May 31, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Superintendents are invited to participate. The agenda will focus on a summary of the Education budget and policy legislation. You will be sent an email of the call-in instructions on May 29. Thank you.

Minnesota’s Distinguished High School Students Honored for Exemplary Levels of Performance

Forty-two Minnesota students will be honored at the Scholars of Distinction ceremony this Saturday, May 18. See the May 17 press release.

“It’s About Time!” Innovative Learning Time Conference – June 21, 2013

St. Olaf College and the Minnesota Department of Education invite educators, out-of-school-time professionals and all other interested community members to the 2013 “It’s About Time!” Innovative Learning Time Conference. The conference will be held Friday, June 21, 2013, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at St. Olaf College Buntrock Commons. The conference aims to help communities collaborate to create richer, more effective learning environments both inside the school day and through out-of-school and summer learning opportunities. Keynote presentations will include:

Dr. Rose Chu, Interim Dean, School of Urban Education, Metropolitan State University, St. Paul, on more, deeper learning during the school day;
Bob Seidel, Senior Policy Director of the National Summer Learning Association, on stronger, connected learning during out-of-school time;
Dr. Eric Jolly, President of the Science Museum of Minnesota, on whatever it takes to close learning gaps; and
Father Tim Manatt, S.J., President of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, Minneapolis, on innovation in college and career partnerships from high school through college graduation.

Breakout sessions and small group discussions will bring conference participants the chance to focus on their particular interests in more depth. See conference details and registration information. Minnesota eLearning Summit 2013 – July 29-30, 2013

The Minnesota eLearning Summit 2013 will be held July 29-30, 2013, on the beautiful Northwestern College campus in St. Paul. The Summit connects you with K-12 and higher education practitioners to engage in further discovery and learning through effective and innovative uses of technology. Nationally recognized keynote speakers are Dr. Gary Lopez, Mr. Jeff Young, and Dr. Cable Green!

Minnesota Board of Teaching Licensure Actions

The Minnesota Board of Teaching has taken the following licensure actions:

Bell, David S. (FF 347379) On May 10, 2013, the Board of Teaching adopted a Stipulation Agreement suspending Mr. Bell’s teaching license until November 5, 2013, and provided other conditions are met.
Greenslit, Nancy A. (FF 340255) On May 10, 2013, the Board of Teaching adopted a Stipulation Agreement suspending her teaching license for a period of two years.
Hebrink, Alison, N. (FF 464121) On May 10, 2013, the Board of Teaching adopted a Stipulation Agreement suspending her school social work license from June 1, 2013, until September 1, 2013.
