New Communications Director Josh Collins

The Minnesota Department of Education is very pleased to welcome Josh Collins as communications director. Mr. Collins comes to the department from Ramsey County where he served as the public communications manager and public art administrator for the Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority. He has deep connections to both education and state government, having served as the assistant director of communications for Minneapolis Public Schools, as chair of the Marketing Committee for the Mounds View Schools Education Foundation, and at MnDOT where he led communications efforts around the Hiawatha Light Rail Line. Through his experience with school district, state and county government, Mr. Collins will provide valuable expertise to the agency in this communications leadership role.

Developing High-Quality School Emergency Operations Plans – Guide and Webinar

On Thursday, June 27th and again on Friday, June 28th, 2013, the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Healthy Students and its Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Technical Assistance (TA) Center will host two 90-minute webinars that provide an overview of the recently released “Guide for Developing High-Quality School Emergency Operations Plans.” This new guide will help schools implement high-quality emergency operations plans (EOPs), and describe the principles and processes that will help ensure planning efforts are aligned with the emergency planning practices at the national, state, and local levels.

Webinar dates and times are as follows: Thursday, June 27th, 2013, 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. ET; and Friday, June 28th, 2013, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. ET. Minnesota Board of Teaching Licensure Actions

The Minnesota Board of Teaching has taken the following licensure actions:

Klober Jarvis, Jeannie L. (FF 371387) On June 14, 2013, the Board of Teaching adopted a Stipulation Agreement suspending Ms. Klober Jarvis’ teaching license for a period of one year and until she can meet other requirements of the Board.

Medcalf, Samantha K. (FF 433314) On June 14, 2013, the Board of Teaching adopted a Stipulation Agreement whereby the Board refuses to renew Ms. Medcalf’s teaching license for a period of two years and until she can meet other requirements of the Board.

Vanelli, Brian C. (FF 424162) On June 14, 2013, the Board of Teaching adopted a Stipulation Agreement suspending Mr. Vanelli’s teaching license for a period of two years.
