Creative Kids

Merlyn’s Pen
Supported by contributions from generous companies, foundations, and families, the Merlyn’s Pen Foundation promotes teen literacy. It offers students, parents, and teachers three programs: “The Publishing Project” which identifies and publishes top models of teen writing, offering a personal response to every writer who submits work, “The New Library of Young Adult Writing” which is a comprehensive online library of editor-selected outstanding teen writing, and “The 3 Story Café: The Merlyn’s Pen Showcase of Fiction by American Teen Writers” which puts kids on the air reading and discussing their writing. Minnesota English Journal
The student writing issue publishes writing by students in middle school and high school. Pieces submitted to the NCTE Promising Young Writers and Writing Achievement Award programs are automatically considered for publication. In addition, the journal is also interested in publishing teacher reflections on teaching writing or on an effective writing assignment with accompanying student examples.
National Council of Teachers of English 2005 Achievement Awards in Writing
This is an annual writing contest for students who are juniors in high school. High school English department nominate students that have demonstrated writing achievement. New Moon
This magazine includes writing by girls and women about the experience of being a girl. Submissions are accepted from girls 8-14 years old. It is published in Duluth, MN. http://www.newmoon.org
Skipping Stones
This multicultural quarterly magazine accepts materials from children up to age 18.

Stone Soup

Teen Ink
Written exclusively for teenagers, this magazine publishes stories, poems, and Web site reviews written by teens between the ages of 13-19. It offers a monthly poetry contest as well. http://www.teenink.com
Weekly Reader

Word Dance
This is a quarterly magazine of children’s writing that encourages K-8th grade writers to submit their work in specified categories, including narratives about travel and haiku.
Young Voices Magazine
