Career and Technical Education Levy
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Levy, Minnesota Statutes 124D.4531, allows Minnesota's independent and special school districts to recover a portion of the costs of their career and technical education programs. Revenue generated by a district’s career and technical levy may only be used to support state-approved programs in agriculture, business and marketing, family and consumer science, health careers, service occupations and trade/technical education.
To qualify for the career and technical education levy, districts must submit annual budgets for approval to the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) using the web-based reporting system. Each district will identify a District User (the person entering the budget/expenditure data) and a District Administrator (the Superintendent or licensed CTE administrator who approves the budgets). The assigned staff must review the CTE Levy Recalculation Web-Based Reporting System User’s Guide (see document below) before requesting access to the system.
