Advanced Placement (AP)

Advanced Placement (AP)

The Advanced Placement (AP) program provides students with the opportunity to take college-level courses in high school. Thirty-seven college-level courses and exams in 22 subjects are available, however individual high schools determine which courses and exams to offer.

Research indicates that AP courses enhance student confidence and offer a significant indication of how prepared an individual student may be to enter postsecondary settings. In addition, students with AP credit increase their chances of admission to college and can save time and money when they enter.

All Students are Encouraged to Talk With their Instructor or Counselor About Participating in AP
Each year the number of students taking AP courses and passing the exams with a score high enough to qualify for college credit increases. Instructors are highly-trained and utilize research-based strategies to effectively reach all students. AP exams are open to all students, not just the students who have taken the AP course. Home-schooled, online and other students may take just the AP exam and obtain credit based on their score. More than 3,000 colleges and universities award college credit or placement into higher-level courses upon college entrance.

AP Coordinators, District and School Staff: Visit the College Board's AP and pre-AP programs for additional information, including test dates, how to order exams and more. (see related links)
