ELL Item Samplers

The Minnesota Department of Education provides item samplers (practice tests) as well as annotated student responses to writing prompts.  Item samplers are provided to familiarize students with the format of the test, but should not be used to predict how well students will perform on the actual test.  An item sampler is not a complete test.  It may contain a smaller number of items than students will see on a full-length test.

Test of Emerging Academic English (TEAE) item samplers, practice test manual and annotated samples are available below.

Mathematics for English Language Learners (MTELL) item samplers are provided in two parts for each grade, 3-8 and 11.  Providing learners the opportunity to take both part 1 and 2 of their grade level test is strongly recommended in order for them to become familiar with the content and format of this computer-delivered test.

     For 2004 and beyond, the TEAE reading answer sheets for grades 5-12 were modified to move vertically along the page, as do the test items in the reading booklet. Replace the old practice test reading answer sheets with these pages.
