The Safe and Healthy Learners team works through partnerships to ensure that K-12 students are safe and secure; have the skills to be healthy, resourceful and engaged in learning; and that the families, schools, and communities that support them have the information needed to nurture the healthy development of their students.

Restorative Measures in Schools Seminar, June 15-18, 2009

This year the seminar will run from June 15-18 2009 at Webster School in Northeast Minneapolis. Access the application form for the seminar here. Cost for the four day event is $160 for adults, $60 for students, and is limited to 30 participants. Participants will learn the principles of restorative measures and explore ways to use and adapt the practices in classrooms, in youth programming and as part of the whole school environment; connect restorative approaches with on-going efforts, such as bullying prevention, RtI, dropout prevention, teaching pro-social skills and discipline policies. Minnesota After-School Community Learning Programs: Year One Summary Report

In the summer of 2007, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) awarded 21 grants to after-school programs throughout the state of Minnesota through the After-School Community Learning Grant. Authorized under Minnesota Statutes section 124D.2211 during the 2007 legislative session, $5.3 million in grant funds were made available to establish and/or expand enrichment opportunities for children and youth across the state during those times when school is not in session (e.g., school release days, before/after school, weekends and summer).  Click here to review a summary report of the 2007-2008 grant activities.
