Principal's Role in Special Education Online
The Principal’s Role in Special Education is a web-based tool that outlines the ABC’s for principals working with special education related issues and topics. This Online Guide is organized into three main categories: Assessment (A), Building Level Leadership (BLL), and Curriculum and Instruction (CI).
For each category in the online guide, multiple standards and indicators are identified as they directly relate to implementing special education laws and rules (IDEA and MN Rule 3525). Each standard is organized into three sections:
1. Standard - A restatement of the standard.
2. Overview - A brief, but thorough narrative defining the standard.
3. Self-assessment - A table of indicators for each standard that can be used as a self-assessment.
Each indicator includes a rating scale (A- always, S-sometimes, N-never) with federal & state legal links/resources and educational resources for further information. The links and resources are hyperlinked to websites and online documents.
It is important to remember that this Online Guide outlines a principal’s role as it relates to the implementation of an effective special education program. Click on any of the links to the right to begin.
